ICCA FuUuUnNN

by admin

So if  y’all didn’t already know, we JUST competed in the ICCAs on Saturday, the 9th! It was an all around amazing, crazy experience. We put  endless hours a week into practicing and rehearsing and we definitely felt the heat, but it was all worth it in the end because we gained a truly unforgettable memory and experience with it. Although us lovable Sporks did not advance to Semi’s, we definitely enjoyed ourselves on stage and came to realize so many different things about competition. A learning experience, nonetheless is the best way to look at it :) We are so happy for the groups that did advance and we wish them the best at Semi’s! Competition is NO JOKE and although working our butts off didn’t get us the trophy in the end, it taught us so much more about ourselves and that is a prize within itself :)

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE ALUM, FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHO WENT OUT IN THAT HORRIBLE BLIZZARD TO SUPPORT US! WE LOVE YOU GUYS FOREVER!

Winter Concert FUN! 2012

by admin

As many of you know, we had our annual, final concert of the semester on December 7th- our Winter Concert! We performed our entire rep (9 songs.) It was awesome because so many of our families and friends within and outside of the Rutgers community came to watch all the hard work we’ve been putting into this concert! The Sporks Alumni (Katherine Geithman, Reginald Harrison, Dan Braff, Daniel Portilla, Sam Paul, Josh Stopek, David Rabizadeh and a couple others) came and got to sing the Alumni song “Love The One You’re With” with us. It’s always great to be able to sing with ALL the Sporks!

If you were not there, I posted some links of songs we performed!

More to come!!

Thank YOU ALL FOR COMING and SUPPORTING

And for those who donated to the Sandy Relief, A MILLION THANK YOU’S!

We’re In It To WIN IT! ICCA Quarterfinals!

by admin

WHATS UP ALL!
As of TODAY we are officially COMPETITORS in the ICCA Quarterfinals Competition in the Spring! We are so excited and thrilled to see what competing will be like since it will be the first time for so many of us in the group! It’s definitely going to be a lot of hard work and so many determined hours to rehearsing, but it gives us more of a reason to be with each other outside of regular rehearsals and if there is anything we love more than rehearsal, it’s EXTRA REHEARSAL :)

We are looking forward to the extra time put in and the rewarding success we will get out of it! The last year the Sporks competed in ICCA’s was in 2010, so we are determined to GET DOWN AND DIRTY, WORK HARD AND HAVE FUN!

THIS TIME Y’ALL, WE’RE IN IT TO WIN IT!

5th Annual A Cappella 4gy Concert!

by admin

HEY GUYS! Before we update you guys on how amazing our 4gy Concert was, we just want to wish and hope that everyone is quickly recovering from the terrible Hurricane we had. We hope that everyone affected by that cruel Sandy is safe and is able to return to normal routines soon. Sandy was the main reason why we were not able to update you guys earlier, but we are here now and we want to thank everyone that came out to the 4gy, it was a huge success!

The 4gy, if you all don’t already know is an annual halloween concert on campus that 4 awesome a capella groups put together to bring all of the Rutgers Community together. Shockwave, the Disney princesses, Deep Treble, the cute animals, Casual Harmony, the dead celebrities and the OrphanSporks, the sexy sailors & pirates brought everyone to the edges of their seats with musical excitement on the spooo0o0oky night of October 26th, 2012! It was an awesome night filled with synergy that could last for days and music that made everyone’s ears happy. It was a night where Rutgers students, Rutgers alumni, parents, siblings and friends got together to support all the hard work that goes into this concert. We really enjoyed it and we love you all for coming out and supporting us.

Our next concert is our Winter Concert scheduled for December 7th! We hope to see you all there as well! :-)

Until next time!

We’re Back at RUTGERS!

by admin

Hey y’all! We are finally back on campus starting the new semester and we have so much to fill you guys in on!

First off, we apologize for delaying the updates! (Yet again, more technical malfunctions)

Nevertheless, we are back and super excited to kick off the semester rockin’ out with some awesome people! So, this semester we have 7 new amazing humans in the group and we LoOoO0ve them soooo much! They are incredible and we are so glad to have them in our group! We look forward to all the fun events, gigs and bonding time with the newbies and are psyched to introduce them to the A cappella world! We are left in awe with their raw talent and awesome personalities and cannot wait to SPORKIFY THEM :) (We can already see their weird, sporky sides and we are totally lovin it, haha)

YAY WELCOME NEWBIES!!!! <3
Luke Ostrow- Bari/Bass

Justin Umana- Tenor

Arvin Zabalerio- Bari/Bass

Sean Switzer- Bari/Bass

Taina Spicer- Alto

Sandhya Balachandar- Soprano

Sara Melberger- Alto

The audition process was super long, but we are so glad that these 7 mighty singers made it into the group in one piece :D (joke haha)

ANYWAY, we have exciting news about a project we worked on with Rutgers Marketing last semester.. They asked us to film a video with them on RUTGERS SPIRIT (RU- RAH-RAH!) We got to work with the Scartlet Knight and we re-arranged the lyrics to our song “Swag Medly” (The Jagger version only), and made them Rutgers Spirit lyrics! It was an amazing experience for all of us and a snippet of the video will be featured at the 2012 Rutgers Football Blackout Game vs. UConn on October 6th! (wheeeee!) We are super excited for that and we want to thank Rutgers Marketing for wanting to work with us, they truly did an amazing job!

You Can Watch The Full Video Here: http://vimeo.com/50044230

Well,

We officially have a couple gigs already for the Fall semester, but we are in the process of updating the page a lot so stay on the lookout for more events! We LOVE Y’ALL!

After a LooOoOngg Semester….

by admin

Hey y’all!! I know it has been a while since we have updated you guys on what the OrphanSporks have been up to, but we’ve been having a couple technical difficulties with the page and are well on our way to having it fixed soon!

On a better note, April 21st was our FINAL CONCERT/ CD RELEASE Concert! And yes y’all WE FINALLY FINISHED IT! :) AND THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT AND WATCHED US!

IT SOUNDS AMAZING and without the help of you amazing supporters and your donations, we would have never been able to get this far!

p.s  ( If anyone is looking to buy/order one, you can just email us at:  theorphansporks@gmail.com)

Unfortunately, it was the last concert for the Seniors Ela Joshi, Reginald Harrison, Sam Paul, Katherine Geithman and Schuyler Schrickel :( …. but needless to say, we had an INCREDIBLE year with them! We wish you guys the best Seniors! WE LOVE YOU!

We ALSO just had our SPORK TOUR 2012 and it was absolutely everything to us! We traveled and performed at our old high schools and middle schools in North Jersey, South Jersey, and all the way in PHILLY, where we performed at Drexel’s  8 to the Bar’s Spring Concert!

This semester was a little more hectic for us with the making of our CD and with all the gigs we had, but we definitely made it work and it was awesome!!

Now, we are trying to plan a camping trip sometime this summer because we obviously can’t get enough of ourselves tee-hee! AND THEN WE’LL BE GETTING READY FOR AUDITIONS IN THE FALL AGAIN! (WHOO-HOOOOOO)

STAY TUNED, we will keep you UPDATED!!!

LOVE YOU GUYS! <33

The OrphanSporks are taking a short break from CD recording to perform their midsemester concert!!! We are so excited to be sharing the stage with Casual Harmony, as well as having guest group Stockapella from Stockton College in attendance! We’ll be working a beach theme – perfect for this time of year, when the weather won’t decide to be warm or cold. So escape the midterm blues and take a break on the beach with some tunes from your favorite acappella groups!

The OrphanSporks are making a new CD!!!

by admin

Finally, after five years of waiting (yes, it’s been that long), the OrphanSporks are thrilled to announce they are making a new CD this semester! As anyone who has ever recorded anything knows, this is a big, and costly, endeavor. So, the Sporks are asking their incredibly awesome, wonderfully supportive fans for some help. Any help, big or small, is so useful to our mission and deserves a thank you! Please go to our Kickstarter page (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2045155025/the-orphansporks-make-a-sporktastic-cd) to find out more and see if there is anything you or anyone you know can do to contribute!

The OrphanSporks are often involved in charity events on campus, and support campus activities with our music whenever we can. The production of our CD is one of the key ways we generate funds so we can keep bringing music not only to Rutgers, but all over New Jersey (and sometimes other states)! So please spread the word, keep checking the website for updates, and as always, THANK YOU for being so supportive of the Sporks!!!

Love, Julie, Ela, Meg, Sam P, Kat, Reggie, Sam L, Justin, Deanna, Grace, Schuyler, Sarah, Andrew, Matt, and Salieu!

Thank You!! Winter Wishes Fundraising was a Big Success!

by admin

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Winter Concert 2011! We had one of our LARGEST crowds ever, and were able to raise lots of money for Winter Wishes, a charity event run by Rutgers’ Student Volunteer Council. Winter Wishes gives New Brunswick pre-school children gifts for the holiday season. Rutgers University students, faculty, staff, and alumni can adopt a child’s wish, and purchase a gift for him or her for the holidays.

OrphanSporks were able to purchase everything on our adopted child’s wish list and hope she had a very wonderful holiday season! Thank you everyone for helping us give back to the wonderful children of our New Brunswick Community. This is what the holidays are about, bringing good people together with music :)
